WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH – August 27, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police say a man who had just slammed his car into a concrete barrier on Bangerter Highway was killed Thursday night after he bolted from his vehicle and into traffic.

West Valley City Police said Bruce Reutner, 50, was traveling north on Bangerter when he was involved in a single car accident, at approximately 9:40 p.m. Reutner’s vehicle came to a rest on the center median of the highway near 3750 South. Reutner attempted to cross Bangerter highway eastbound and was struck by another vehicle traveling north.

That driver did not stop. Reutner did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A possible suspect vehicle has been identified as a 1995-1997 Toyota Tercel. There is conflicting information regarding the vehicle’s color. A witness described it as being dark colored (possibly green).

Investigators, however, have recovered pieces of the vehicle which have been spray painted white. The suspect vehicle will be missing pieces of bumper as well as the front grill piece which sits between the two headlights. The vehicle will have a broken right, or passenger side, headlight and a broken front passenger turn signal. The vehicle will also have significant damage to the right side front from the license plate over to the corner of the vehicle as well as damage to the hood. It will be obvious that there has been impact to the front right of this vehicle.

Anyone who has information about this hit and run or about the suspect vehicle please call West Valley City Police at 801-840-4000.
