TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH – October 3, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police are currently investigating a hit-and-run accident that snapped a power pole in half Saturday morning and left thousands without power.
According to Unified Police Detective Chuck Melm, calls came into dispatchers around 6:15 a.m. after residents in the area of 5400 South and 2320 West heard a loud crash. When they went outside to investigate, they found a Nissan Pathfinder had crashed into a power pole and had come to a rest in the westbound lanes of 5400 South.
Witnesses reported seeing two Hispanic males running from the Pathfinder just after the accident occurred. Officers are currently working with the owner of the Pathfinder to locate the driver.
Officers found marijuana and marijuana pipes inside the pathfinder; however, it is not known if drugs and alcohol were a contributing factor in the accident.
The accident caused more than 2,447 residents to lose electricity for several hours but power has since been restored.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. No injuries have been reported.
