NASHVILLE, Oct. 23 (UPI) — One person was shot to death and three injured in a dispute over a dice game at Nashville’s Tennessee State University campus, police said.
The campus was put on lockdown after a fight erupted early Friday among men playing a dice game at an outdoor courtyard, police spokesman Don Aaron said. One member of the group began firing a gun, killing an unidentified 19-year-old man, who was not enrolled at the school. Three women passing by were wounded, none seriously.
The victims were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville Police spokesperson Tonya Stone said.
“We do not believe this was an incidence of a random shooter on campus. This was an isolated incident resulting from a dispute over a dice game. The Nashville Police Department believes this campus is safe,” Aaron commented.
Police said the suspected gunman was on the run.
The incident occurred after police, school officials and community leaders met to voice concerns about safety at and near the campus. Three people were shot last week at a house party near the school; the gunman remains at large.
