WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Nov. 1 (UPI) — One student is dead and one is wounded in a shooting at Winston-Salem State University during homecoming weekend, the school said early Sunday.
The university said the campus was on full lockdown after the 1:20 a.m. shooting in a lot near two residence halls, Wilson Hall and Gleason-Hairston Terrace. After three hours, the lockdown was lifted.
Campus police named Jarrett Jermone Moore as a suspect in the shooting and are asking the public for information about him or the shooting. He is not thought to be a student.
The campus will be closed Sunday to the general public. The investigation is ongoing.
Counseling services for students will be available in Thompson Center 304 beginning at approx. 8 a.m.
