WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (UPI) — Hackers who breached CIA Director John Brennan‘s email account are suspected in a breach of a sensitive FBI-run law enforcement portal and hacking into an email account belonging to the FBI’s second in command.
The group Crackas With Attitude said it hacked into the Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal, which allows law enforcement nationwide to share investigative information, and personal user data was stolen. The group is also suspected in hacking FBI Deputy Director Mark Giuliano’s email.
“We have no comment on specific claims of hacktivism, but those who engage in such activities are breaking the law,” FBI spokeswoman Carol Cratty told CNN. “The FBI takes these matters very seriously. We will work with our public and private sector partners to identify and hold accountable those who engage in illegal activities in cyberspace.”
The group said it hacked into Brennan’s AOL email account in October, gaining access to sensitive government documents stored as attachments.
