OGDEN, Utah, Jan. 8, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect wanted in connection with two Ogden credit unions robberies is behind bars Friday.
Police said Peter Leonard Lyon, 58, targeted Goldenwest Credit Union, at 3225 Harrison Blvd., Ogden, at 9:20 a.m. Dec. 19.
According to Ogden Police Department, Lyon approached an employee, produced what appeared to be an improvised explosive device, and demanded money. Police said no one was injured in the incident.
Officers said Lyon left the credit union on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
The Education First Credit Union, at 1250 County Hills Drive, was robbed in a similar fashion to the Goldenwest Credit Union 2 p.m. Friday.
Witnesses stated Lyon entered the Education First Credit Union and handed a teller a note which read he had a gun and demanded money, then he got away with an undisclosed amount.
Witnesses to the Education First Credit Union robbery described Lyon leaving the area in a silver colored Toyota Prius, which also matched the suspect vehicle description in the Goldenwest Credit Union robbery. Nobody was injured.
Minutes later officers located the suspect vehicle in the 2200 block of Jackson Avenue. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Lyon.
Lyon submitted to police custody, and officers located evidence from both robberies in his vehicle.
Lyon was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail on felony charges stemming from the Goldenwest Credit Union robbery. Investigators said Lyon will soon be charged for the robbery of the Education First Credit Union.
