WILMINGTON, Del., April 22 (UPI) — A 16-year-old girl died Thursday after a fight with other girls at her high school, authorities said.

The girl, a sophomore, who’s name was not released, was involved in a fight with two other girls in a bathroom Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington.

The girl was seriously injured and rushed by helicopter to a A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children where she died shortly after, aid Gary Fullman, chief of staff to the Wilmington mayor.

The fight just as classes began for the day. The cause of the fight was not disclosed.

Two students are being questioned by police, but have not charged. There was no weapon believed to be involved, Wilmington Police Chief Bobby Cunningham said.

“We are shaken but stand ready to provide support and care to the family, to Howard students and staff, and to all of those affected by this act of senseless violence. We ask that you do the same,” New Castle County Vo-Tech School District officials said in a statement.

“This is not only an unspeakable tragedy for her family, but also for the school, and the entire community.”
