SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 28, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified one suspect involved in a burglary with shots fired, involving a home caretaker, in Salt Lake City Wednesday night.
Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release officers responded to a shots fired call at a house near 1100 E. Harvard Ave. at approximately 9:50 p.m.
The incident ended with the female suspect, Paulette Gray, 46, being booked into jail for burglary.
The news release said: “Officers made contact with the home caretakers. The female half reported that this was her elderly mother’s currently vacant home that she takes care of with her husband. They knew someone had been breaking into the home so they waited for the burglars to show up tonight.
“Once the male and female burglars showed up they confronted them with handguns and demanded that they wait for the police. The male suspect did not comply, was shot in the abdomen and fled the home. The male caretaker ran after him but the suspect fled in a vehicle. The male caretaker then fired shots at the fleeing vehicle.”
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, is in stable condition, and is currently under guard by police.
The caretaker, Glen Decker, 51, was booked into jail on aggravated assault charges.
