The shooter is still at large. The victim’s car, taken by the assailant, has been recovered, according to another department tweet.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Justin Hudson said on Saturday that police found the car in the area of 1500 West and Hayes Avenue. Hudson said the vehicle had been set on fire.

The SLCPD is hoping witnesses will come forward. The suspect is described as a male of average build, wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

SLCPD Lt. Robin Heiden said Guiterrez was shot near 1075 Redwood Road.

Police received calls from a couple of people who reported seeing a man either stumbling or collapsed on the road, but no one saw him getting out of a vehicle or with another person, Lt. Heiden said.

Guiterrez was found in the driveway leading to a nearby car wash. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and died of his injuries.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the car wash.

Anyone who saw anything or who may have information about the shooting is asked to call Salt Lake City Police at 801-799-3000.
