BOSTON, Nov. 20 (UPI) — The FBI is offering a reward for information leading to the capture of a man known as “The Spelling Bee Bandit” wanted in a string of robberies.
The man targeted four banks in the Boston area and in each instance entered the bank wearing sunglasses before writing “robery” on a withdrawal slip and handing it to the teller, according to the Boston Globe.
Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone able to provide information on the thief known for his poor spelling, as the FBI claimed he has started to behave more aggressively with the tellers.
“He has become increasingly aggressive with the tellers both in his physical interactions and his verbal interaction,” Daniel R. Romanzo of FBI Boston’s Violent Crimes Task Force told the Boston Herald. “The individual has been leaning over the teller counter to interact with the tellers and the tone of his voice has become more aggressive toward the teller…and it has resulted in a greater loss to the banks for each of the robberies.”
Witnesses described the robber as a thin, white man in his late 30s to early 40s, and between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet 2 inches tall.
He has also been seen wearing jeans, a dark jacket, dark sneakers with white soles and a white New England Patriots hat and was heard speaking with a “local accent.”
