PARK CITY, Utah, Jan. 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Comic Chelsea Handler has confirmed she will lead the Women’s March on Main, to be held Saturday in Park City.
“Sundance has always been a platform for change, not only for filmmakers and filmmaking but also for big ideas for the future,” Handler said in a social media post.
Handler is best known for television series “Chelsea Lately,” “Chelsea Does” and “Chelsea.”
“If there’s anything I learned in the last year, it’s that we need to be louder and stronger than ever about what we believe in, so I joined some incredible women from around the country to bring our voices together in the streets of Park City,” Handler’s statement continued.
“The Women’s March on Main will be an opportunity for the creative community and those in Utah to stand beside those in D.C.”
The Women’s March on Washington, organized as a pro-women reaction to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, is also scheduled for Saturday, and is expected to draw well over 200,000 marchers, according to CNN.
As for the Park City march, its Facebook page on Tuesday showed that 3,300 page visitors indicated they were going and another 3,400 clicked “interested.”
The Utah march could draw a lot more star power and coverage since it happens on the first Saturday of the Sundance Film Festival, based in Park City. The two events are unaffiliated, but hundreds of actors and filmmakers will be in town, as will representatives from the local, national and international media.
Parking will be difficult. Organizers suggest being in town 90 minutes before the march begins for the best chance of finding a spot. They also suggest carpooling and checking the event’s Facebook page to look for other suggestions. A shuttle bus may be provided.
The march starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 220 Main St., which is the parking lot of Wasatch Brew Pub. Organizers suggest wearing purple, white or pink knit caps to indicate unity and togetherness.
A list of speakers will be posted on Thursday on Facebook, organizers have said.
