DRAPER, Utah, May 22, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Unified Fire Authority and LifeFlight responded to the area of 15300 S. Steep Mountain Drive after receiving a report that someone had crashed while hang gliding Monday evening.
UFA spokesman Matthew McFarland said the incident was called in by another hang glider pilot who saw the accident from the air. That pilot was directing rescuers to the general location of the glider that crashed.
McFarland said few details were available and rescuers were attempting to make contact with the injured pilot at 8:30 p.m.
Shortly after 9 p.m., UFA reported on Twitter that the LifeFlight helicopter had reached the downed pilot. McFarland said a heavy rescue crew was standing by in case the pilot would need to be brought out with a hoist.
Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as information becomes available.
