MORGAN COUNTY, Utah, April 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An aircraft crashed Tuesday night as it was coming in for a landing at Mountain Green (Morgan) Airport.

The plane, a single-engine, fixed-wing Cessna 180, went off the runway, at 5740 N. Cottonwood Canyon Road, at about 8:30 p.m.

Mountain Green Fire Chief Brian Brendel told Gephardt Daily the plane hit a berm and the landing gear collapsed.

Brendel said crews responded quickly, bringing all their fire apparatus to the scene, but “fortunately, the pilot hit the fuel cut-off, so there was no fire.”

An ambulance was initially called to the crash site, but ended up being cancelled.

The pilot was the aircraft’s only occupant. He was able to self-extricate and wasn’t injured.

“The aircraft is on its side and it’s totaled,” Brendel said. “We left it in the hands of the Sheriff’s Office and the FAA to do their investigation.”

According to Flightaware, the aircraft is registered to Utah Cub Pilot LLC.
