STOCKTON, Utah, July 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Stockton police say a resident was attacked in the Tooele County town on Friday afternoon, and they want to warn others.
“On July 12, 2019 around 12:30 in the afternoon a Stockton resident was attacked by a bat while doing yard work in their yard,” the police statement says.
“While bats are common in Stockton, this is concerning because it was in the middle of the afternoon, and bats are normally not aggressive. Tests are being conducted to determine if it had rabies.”
The Stockton Utah Police Department, which protects the town’s population of about 675, offered safety guidelines:
- If you do see a bat out in the day, please do not go near it
- Keep an eye on where kids play
- Make sure pets are fully vaccinated
