SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 8, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City Police Gang Unit detectives have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with a drive-by shooting Monday in the city’s Fairpark neighborhood.

The investigation started at 1:28 a.m. Monday after reports of multiple gunshots and a car speeding near 200 North and 1300 West. Officers in the area on another call responded, and talked with witnesses and collected evidence.

“There were no reported injuries,” the SLCPD news release says. “Officers checked the area but did not find the car. Detectives with the SLCPD Gang Unit took over the investigation and developed information about the case.”

On Wednesday, detectives located the car and took the teen into custody in Sandy.

“As a result of a court-authorized search warrant, detectives recovered a handgun and AR-15 style rifle from the car. Detectives booked the 17-year-old into the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center.”

Because of the alleged shooter’s juvenile status, police will release no additional information on the case.
