LOGAN, Utah, Sept. 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man struck and killed by a train Wednesday as Logan resident Jacob Pratt.
His obituary says he had lost his hearing during his youth.
The incident happened at about 1:20 p.m. at an unregulated train crossing at 14300 North just east of state Route 23. It was located in the rural town of Cornish, which is north/northwest of Logan and just south of the Idaho border.
“The train was northbound and the vehicle was westbound,” an initial CCSO statement says. “Two westbound cars did cross in front of the train and were able to get through the intersection. However, the third vehicle, a van driven by a 40-year old male was struck by the train as it crossed through the intersection.”
The updated statement says, “The Pratt family has expressed their appreciation to all agencies and their members who have been involved in investigating this incident during this difficult time. They have requested privacy to allow time for them to grieve the loss of their husband and father.”
The Sheriff’s Office also shared a GoFundMe account created by a family member. It can be viewed at this link.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the sudden loss of our beloved uncle, brother, father, husband, and friend, who tragically passed away in an accident on Sept. 18, 2024,” the account says.
“Jacob was loved by so many and left a lasting impact on everyone he met. His warmth, kindness, and generosity will never be forgotten. During this incredibly difficult time, we are asking for your support to help cover the unexpected funeral expenses and to give him and his family the loving farewell he deserves.”
