UTAH LAKE, Sept. 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A small plane has crashed into Utah Lake Friday morning, and rescue/recovery crews have responded to the scene.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff spokesman, said the call came to dispatch at approximately 10:10 a.m. Friday.

“We don’t know for sure how many occupants were on board, or what their status is,” Cannon told Gephardt Daily. “We have search and rescue on the lake, and some other assets. I know Provo PD is there and Provo Fire, and we asked for assistance from Saratoga Fire.”

Cannon said the plane went down probably less than a mile from the Provo boat dock, near the Provo Airport.

“Word is that the plane had been cleared to land, and tower workers saw the plane go down into the lake. But beyond that, we don’t know.”

According to reports issued before noon, the plane, believed to be a single-engine craft, had been submerged in an estimated 8 feet of water for an extended period of time, and no survivors had been located. A dive team from Utah Highway Patrol reportedly is among those searching the area.

Utah Lake State Park has been closed to the public during the search.

Gephardt Daily will have more information as details are released.
