WEBER COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Weber Fire District is mourning the loss of a former employee whose father still works with the agency.

“Our hearts are heavy as we lay our brother, Colten Naef, to rest,” a Weber Fire social media statement says.

“Colten was a beloved part of the Weber Fire District family, the son of our Battalion Chief, and a former employee.”

Colten Naef died Monday when he was riding a UTV on a dirt road, then crossed state Route 102 in Box Elder County and was struck by a Chevrolet truck hauling a flatbed.

“The UTV failed to yield the right of way and impacted the right rear tire of the Chevrolet,” the Utah Highway Patrol statement says. “The driver of the UTV was ejected and died on scene. The Chevrolet jackknifed and came to rest blocking the roadway. The driver and passenger of the truck were not injured.”

The Weber Fire District statement continues, “While words cannot fully express our sorrow, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

“We hope the outpouring of love brings some comfort, and the cherished memories shared offer solace during this heartbreaking time.”
