SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 7, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting Sunday in downtown Salt Lake City as 30-year-old Gage Barrows.
Salt Lake City police originally misspelled the victim’s last name, leaving off the final letter. The spelling has been corrected in this article.
The man arrested Sunday after Salt Lake City police say witnesses followed him from the scene is Farshad Baesmat Hassan-Pouri, 49. He was arrested for investigation of murder and felony discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury, both listed as potential first-degree felonies.
As always, charges and their severity will be determined by the county attorney’s office.
Hassan-Pouri’s affidavit says witnesses told homicide detectives “there was an argument between Hassan-Pouri and the decedent.”
During the argument, Hassan-Pouri allegedly “pulled a firearm out of his waistband and discharged the firearm several times in the direction of the victim.” The victim, caught on surveillance video, tried to run away, court documents say.
Post Miranda, Hassan-Pouri allegedly told interrogators, he “shot the male several times, followed him and then shot him again.”
Hassan-Pouri allegedly told investigators he was angered after allegedly being approached by the victim, now identified as Barrow, whom he said was “talking shit.” Hassan-Pouri said he “told the victim several times to stay away from him,” however the victim continued to approach Hassan-Pouri, allegedly telling him, “Go f**k yourself.”
Barrows died at the scene.
Gephardt Daily will have more information on this case as additional details emerge.
