SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 4, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has indicted a man after he reportedly threatened officers of the Sandy City Police Department after he was stopped three times in a car that had been reported as stolen.

The defendant, Sayed Zeinullah Mousavi, drove away from all three Oct. 31 traffic stops, and was taken into custody after the vehicle was disabled, his affidavit says.

The vehicle was searched, and a paper inside was found to contain the words, verbatim, “Pressure Israel to cease fire with killing significant Jews in Gaza. And let’s take non-hostage. Only soldiers/male government. Conduct assignation of leaders. Attack military sites with most expensive bombs. Plant bombs inside Z-jets.”

Sandy City Police Officer Biggs took Mousavi, 27, to jail.

“The defendant told Officer Biggs that he was going to kill Americans and kill the U.S.A., and to watch the news in two weeks to a month if the officer did not believe him,” the SLCo DA’s office says, in a news release about the case.

“The defendant also told Officer Biggs he was going to buy guns and shoot up the Sandy Police Department.”

Mousavi has been charged with:

  • Threat of terrorism — use of weapon/hoax mass destruction, a second-degree felony
  • Three counts of failure to respond to officer’s signal to stop, a third-degree felony
  • Driving on suspended or revoked operator’s license, a class C misdemeanor

Mousavi was ordered to be held without bail in the Salt Lake County jail system.

SLCo District Attorney Sim Gill commented on the case.

“We appreciate the work of (the) Sandy Police Department taking this potentially dangerous defendant into custody,” Gill said in a news release. “This office will always take seriously threats against our community safety.”

He added that “All persons accused of wrongdoing are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

Gephardt Daily will share additional information on the case as it develops.
