VERNAL, Utah, Nov. 4, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Three students of Vernal’s Terra Academy Charter School were involved in an accident Monday that left one in critical condition.
Two 16-year-old students were riding on the hood of a vehicle being driven by an 18-year-old student in the school’s parking lot, at 267 Aggie Blvd., Vernal.
“The two 16 year old juveniles slipped off the front of the vehicle’s hood, resulting in one of the juveniles being trapped under the vehicle,” says a statement issued by the Vernal Police Department.
“Law enforcement and emergency medical services responded to the scene of the accident. Law enforcement and bystanders quickly lifted the vehicle, and the victim was extricated from underneath the vehicle.”
The girl was transported to the Ashley Regional Medical Center emergency room, “where she was stabilized and transferred to a Salt Lake area hospital, where she is in intensive care,” the police statement says. “The case is currently under investigation and will be reviewed for charges.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family, wishing her a prompt recovery.”
Terra Academy has arranged for counselors to be on campus throughout the day to provide support to staff and students.
No mention was made of any injuries to the second juvenile student riding the hood or to the driver.
