SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 13, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City man was booked into jail Tuesday after a warrant served on his residence turned up approximately 1,000 fentanyl pills, along with methamphetamine shards in the toilet.

Jason Everette Handy, 37, was at the residence when detectives knocked on the door to announce the warrant service.

“Jason Handy looked out the window and ran deeper it to residence and did not open the door, which caused detectives to breach the door,” says the affidavit, filed by an officer of the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force.

Upon entry, detectives encountered a partially dressed female in the halway, walking away from the bathroom.

“Detectives then encountered Jason Handy blocking the hallway and refusing to come out from around the corner fully,” the statement says.

“Once he was in custody, detectives found large amounts of fentanyl pills, approximately 1,000 pills, and methamphetamine shards in the toilet. On top of a washer-dryer stacked set in the hallway where Jason was encountered, detectives found a handgun that was well within reach of Jason.

“After the home was secured, I took Jason aside and advised him of his Miranda Rights, Jason stated he understood his rights and did not want to speak with me.”

Handy was later found to have a 2nd degree warrant for his arrest for distribution of a controlled substance, the affidavit says.

Handy was taken into custody for investigation of:

  • Two counts of distribute/offer/arrange distribution of controlled substances, a second-degree felony
  • Obstruction of justice, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony

“Jason was arrested on the above charges and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail,” the affidavit says. “Jason had $1,385 in his possession, but told me that at the jail that he has no job and makes money sports betting.”

Handy was ordered held without bail.
