CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 17, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 65-year-old man who allegedly touched a juvenile restaurant waitress inappropriately and talked to her in a sexually suggestive manner, suggesting she could come to his motel room to earn her tip, has been booked into jail.
Steven C. Jackson allegedly told the 17-year-old waitress at a family style restaurant in Cedar City, that he ‘wants’ her and asked ‘how does that make you feel,'” his affidavit says.
“She told him that she was 17 and in high school. Despite telling him her age, the adult male suspect continued to make these types of comments and tipped her $10 shortly after he was at the restaurant. He told her that this money was ‘for what happens later.'”
He later tipped her an additional $70 cash on a check that was approximately $15, the affidavit says. He repeated his room number at a local hotel multiple times, it says.
“The victim also reported that he asked her if she would drink alcohol and smoke at his motel room after she got off work tonight and ‘then whatever happens.'”
When the waitress brought the check for his meal, the juvenile told police, Jackson reached over and touched her crotch area through her clothing.
The juvenile reported the incident to Cedar City police, and they responded to the mentioned room number, and talked to Jackson, identified by his Nevada driver license.
“He confirmed that the victim was his waitress. Steven admitted that she told him she ‘was in school,'” the affidavit says. “He admitted that he tipped her a very generous amount in cash. He admitted that he was drinking alcohol tonight and had gone to buy liquor earlier in the day. He initially told me that he did not touch the victim at all. Later on in the interview, he admitted that he put his hand on her shoulder at one point.”
Jackson said that when the victim presented the meal check, “he reached out to her and tried to grab a pen. She immediately backed up and told him that she was uncomfortable with that. He would not tell me why he thought she was uncomfortable and immediately became closed off when I brought up this subject.”
Jackson also claimed he had not told the juvenile his room number.
“However, when another officer asked if he knew how officers found him, he later admitted that he told the waitress his room number.
Jackson was jailed for investigation of:
- Forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony
- Criminal sexual solicitation of a child, a second-degree felony
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class B misdemeanor
Jackson was ordered to be held without bail in the Iron County jail after saying many times he wanted to be released so he could go home to Las Vegas.
