PROVO, Utah, Nov. 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Six people were transported to a Provo area hospital Tuesday afternoon after a collision between an ambulance and a truck that did not yield to the emergency vehicle.
It happened about 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Cougar and Freedom boulevards, said a message sent by Sgt. Cameron Roden, Utah Highway Patrol, to Gephardt Daily.
“A Provo City ambulance was running code with a patient westbound on Cougar Boulevard at the intersection with Freedom Boulevard.
“As the ambulance was clearing the intersection with its emergency equipment, all vehicles yielded and stopped except for a Toyota Tacoma pickup that was southbound on Freedom Boulevard.
“The front of the Toyota collided with the front passenger side of the ambulance. The ambulance then hit a pole in the center-raised median.”
The Toyota came to rest near the driveway of the Arby’s restaurant.
“Four EMS personnel from the ambulance were transported along with the original patient that was being transported,” Roden’s message says. “All were listed in serious condition. The driver of the Tacoma was also transported in serious condition.”
Temporary lane closures affected the intersection during the crash investigation and cleanup. This crash is still under investigation, and these details are preliminary.
Utah Highway Patrol was asked to investigate because a Provo city vehicle was involved.
