CINCINNATI, Ohio, Jan. 5, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was detained by U.S. Secret Service agents early Monday for allegedly causing property damage, including broken windows, at the Cincinnati home of Vice President JD Vance.

Vance and his family were not in the home, the Secret Service said in a statement, but had spent time there over the weekend.

Since taking office as VP, Vance and his family have resided in the vice president’s mansion located at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.

Vance reacted to the incident in a post on X.

The damage to Vance’s Ohio home was done sometime after midnight, according to CNN.

“The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and U.S. Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed,” according to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi.

It has yet to be determined if Vance was being targeted.

Initial reports indicate the alleged suspect did not enter the residence.
