CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 25, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A snowmobiler who triggered an avalanche beneath a cliff band Tuesday in Steep Hollow was dug out by his brother, and suffered only minor injuries, according to a report from the Utah Avalanche Center.
The man’s brother “saw the slope ripple below and around his sled, but was able to ride off the north flank of the avalanche,” the Utah Avalanche Center statement says.
“He watched as the avalanche swept up his brother who was standing next to his sled below the slope. The avalanche carried the rider approximately 150 yards and fully buried him.”
The man buried in snow “was recovered by his brother, who used a transceiver to get close enough to see a couple fingers of a gloved hand sticking out of the snow,” the statement says.
“After his recovery, the rider who had sustained only minor injuries was able to ride out of the backcountry.”
