SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City Police officer arrested a man Monday at the Salt Lake City Library.

Jacob Allen Rye, 48, was arrested for investigation of:

  • Voyeurism, recording, a third-degree felony
  • Sex Offender and Kidnap Offender Registry violation, a class A misdemeanor

Rye “recorded a woman who was naked in the restroom designated only for woman at the Salt Lake City Library,” the arrest affidavit says.

He “consented to a search of the camera roll on his phone. I was able to see the video of him holding his phone above the wall of the stall he was in and did record a woman who was naked in the stall next to his.”

The document added that Rye “is also a non compliant sex offender.”

Rye was ordered held without bail. He remained incarcerated in the Salt Lake County jail system as of Wednesday.
