GRAND COUNTY, Utah, July 28, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Human remains discovered last week in Millcreek Canyon have been confirmed as a Texas woman who went missing during flooding in southern Utah last month.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said the remains found July 22 have been identified as Maranda Ankofski, 51, who went missing with her husband, Ray Ankofski, 58, on June 21.

“The Grand County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Miranda Ankofski’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release Saturday. “We understand the profound impact this news may have on the community and are committed to providing updates as more information becomes available.”

Ray and Maranda Ankofski, of Pearland, Texas, were visiting southern Utah when Grand County and the Moab area experienced a severe thunderstorm that caused flooding and rockslides, and washed out trails and roads.

The couple’s ATV was found in a ravine in the Steel Bender Trail area southeast of Moab, according to the sheriff’s office.

A search involving several agencies was unsuccessful in locating the missing couple.
