CEDAR CITY, Utah, Sept. 7, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested a man in Cedar City after human remains were discovered buried near the home of his 73-year-old mother, who has been missing for months.

After the remains were found last week, authorities said they were looking for her 32-year-old son, Joshua James Glover, believed to be driving her car and considered “armed and dangerous.”

Glover also is suspected by investigators of using financial cards belonging to his missing mother, Kay Gosewisch, and of trying to drain her bank accounts.

A probable cause statement from the 5th District Court of Iron County said Glover is currently facing charges of:

  • Failure to stop or respond at the command of police, a second-degree felony
  • Reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor
  • Interference with an arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor
  • No proof of insurance, a class B misdemeanor

On Saturday at approximately 2:35 p.m., officers received a tip that Glover, who also has $25,000 in active warrants, was at Smith’s in Cedar City, the statement said. Officers were able to locate a vehicle driven by the suspect and attempted to stop it near 550 S. Main St. The car he was driving was not his mother’s, according to the statement.

“Officers approached the vehicle and repeatedly shouted commands for Joshua to turn the vehicle off,” the statement said. “When officers were near the vehicle Joshua put the vehicle into drive and sped away at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens active.”

Glover drove through residential streets “in a reckless manner, running several stop signs, and ignoring speed restrictions, in an attempt to evade pursuing officers,” the statement said. It was estimated that Glover was driving in excess of 70 mph on residential streets with a speed limit of 25 mph.

“The Oldsmobile driven by Joshua later collided with a police vehicle, disabling both cars,” the statement said. “Joshua exited the vehicle and fled on foot, with uniformed officers in pursuit. Officers identified themselves and repeatedly told Joshua to stop, however he climbed a fence into a residential yard before being apprehended.”

The registered owner of the Oldsmobile was contacted and he indicated that the driver was aware that the vehicle was not insured. It was initially though that Glover might be driving his mother’s 2007 Saturn Ion, license plate 776UUV, which is listed as stolen.

A previous news release from Cedar City Police Department said Gosewisch had not been seen for several months, and authorities attempted to contact her on July 31 for a welfare check. They did not find her, but saw nothing suspicious at the time.

On Aug. 18, police were alerted to suspicious activity involving the missing woman’s bank account. Glover “was attempting to withdraw several thousand dollars from her account,” the news release said.

“It was also reported that he has used the account numerous times,” the news release added. “Officers went back to the home and observed Mrs. Gosewisch’s vehicle in the driveway, but no one would answer the door. Contact was made with neighbors and they were told that Mrs. Gosewisch was possibly in Washington state or Nevada tending to a family member.”

Since that time, Cedar City Police Investigations Division followed up on the suspicious information and found that Glover had allegedly been using her bank account since April.

A search warrant was served at the home of Gosewisch, and officers observed items that appeared to be suspicious, the news release said.

Investigators worked with the Iron County Attorney’s Office to draft a search warrant for the property. During the search of the property, “investigators located buried human remains.”

The remains were sent to the state medical examiner’s office for identification and cause of death.

Glover’s previous arrest warrants include possession of a firearm by a restricted person and possession of controlled substances, the news release said. He is not yet facing charges related to his mother’s death.

The suspect was transported to Iron County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
