LOS ANGELES, June 16 (UPI) — Paris Jackson is opening up about the deeper meaning behind her tattoos.
The 18-year-old aspiring actress explained her ink represents “strength” after revealing several of her tattoos help cover self-harm scars in an Instagram post Tuesday.
“Today I can look at my inner forearms and see art that has meaning for me, I don’t see a dark past anymore,” Jackson shared. “My scars and past of self-hatred have been covered by loving marks, creativity, ingenuity… and depth.”
“Sure I will always carry my past with me, but I see ink as a way of changing for the better, always improving,” she added. “They represent strength for me. I look back at my old self and then I look in the mirror, and I see a fighter looking back at me.”
“I’ll always keep fighting, and encouraging others to stay strong,” the star declared. “We all go through hell every now and then but it makes us the warriors of love we were meant to be. So to anyone struggling, it gets better. You’re not alone.”
Jackson has numerous tattoos, including some dedicated to late dad Michael Jackson. The teenager got “Queen of My Heart” tattooed in her father’s handwriting in April and followed up with his Dangerous cover art the next month.
“Never forget your roots, and always be proud of where you came from,” she wrote at the time.
Jackson is the daughter of Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe and sister to 19-year-old Prince and 14-year-old Blanket. The aspiring actress defended her dad in February after revealing she was attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
