HOLLYWOOD July 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — ABC has pulled the plug on their comedy “Uncle Buck” starring Mike Epps after just 4 weeks.
ABC had run off the eight-episode season over the course of four weeks, airing two episodes a night on Tuesdays at 9 and 9:30 p.m.
According to Variety, just an hour before word came of the cancellation, ABC issued a press release touting ratings for the series, which averaged 3.8 million total viewers in Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers, an 81% lift from ABC’s performance in the same time period over the course of the same four weeks a year ago. “Uncle Buck” also averaged a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demo, more than double ABC’s average from a year earlier.
“Uncle Buck” is based on the 1989 John Hughes film of the same name starring John Candy.
James Lesure, one of the show’s stars, broke the news on Wednesday when he tweeted, “Disappointed. No more @ABCUncleBuck. Cancelled. Thankful,” he said in part, continuing, “Proud of what we’ve done. Thx 4 let us entertain u.”
