Sept. 9 (UPI) — Apple may not brand one of its new smartphones this month as the iPhone 8, as was widely expected, according to a number of leaks about the device’s firmware.
Instead, it appears the name of the phone Apple will unveil Tuesday will be the iPhone X.
Several leaks hinted at the name with a view of the phone’s iOS 11 firmware.
Apple releases the new iPhone every year around September. Previous names have merely noted the number, versions two through seven. Most expected the new phone would follow suit as the iPhone 8.
The ‘8’ designation appears likely for two other models of the new smartphone — iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus — but the top model will carry the ‘X’ moniker, Tech Crunch reported.
The iPhone X, if that is what it is dubbed, is expected to retail between $1,000-$1,200.
The company will officially unveil the new smartphone on Tuesday. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the iPhone, as the first debuted in 2007.
