NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 29, 2015 — (UPI) — Billy Joel joked with fans about ex-wife Christie Brinkley dating John Mellencamp on Saturday.
The 66-year-old singer was performing in Madison Square Garden when he referenced the 61-year-old model’s new romance with Mellencamp.
“And now she’s dating John Mellencamp,” he said after finishing his 1983 hit “The Longest Time,” which was inspired by Brinkley.
Joel is known for adding good-natured asides to the end of songs inspired by exes. He and Brinkley were married from 1985 to 1994, and share 29-year-old daughter Alexa Ray Joel.
Brinkley and Mellencamp were first linked in mid-September, and were spotted again on a second date the same week. A source told E! News at the time the pair are “spending time together” following Mellencamp’s split from actress Meg Ryan.
Joel married his fourth wife, Alexis Roderick, in July, and the couple welcomed daughter Della the next month. Brinkley divorced third husband Peter Cook in 2008, and is also mother to 20-year-old son Jack and 17-year-old daughter Sailor with the architect.
