LOS ANGELES, California, Dec. 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Actress Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60, four days after suffering a massive heart attack on a transatlantic flight.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” family spokesman Simon Halls said in a statement to “People” magazine. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
The “Star Wars” actress suffered a massive heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles on Friday, which was first reported by TMZ.
An EMT on board the flight administered CPR and once the plane landed in Los Angeles at approximately 1 p.m., Fisher was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was in critical condition, according to TMZ.
Actress Anna Akana was seated in front of the actress and tweeted that Fisher “was not breathing for 10 minutes or so.”
United Press International reported later Friday that Fisher’s brother reportedly said she was eventually stabilized.
United Airlines said in a statement that medical personnel met Flight 935 on arrival at Los Angeles International Airport after a passenger was found unresponsive.
Just yesterday, Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds broke her silence regarding the condition of her daughter and fellow screen icon.
“Carrie is in stable condition. If there is a change, we will share it. For all her fans & friends. I thank you for your prayers & good wishes,” Reynolds tweeted Sunday.
The daughter of entertainers Debbie Reynolds and the late Eddie Fisher was also an author, who candidly wrote about her battles with bipolar disorder and drug addiction, and frequently mined her memoirs for stage shows, UPI said. The star had lately been on the promotion trail for her latest book “The Princess Diarist.”
In addition to appearing in the “Star Wars” blockbusters as Princess Leia, Fisher has also co-starred in the films “Shampoo,” “The Blues Brothers,” “Hannah and Her Sisters,” “The ‘Burbs,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” She reportedly had been in London filming scenes for the sitcom “Catastophe” last week and to appear on the popular British television show “The Graham Norton Show.”
Fisher is survived by her daughter, “Scream Queens” actress Billie Lourd, whose father is talent agent Bryan Lourd. Fisher was also previously married to singer-songwriter Paul Simon.
