NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (UPI) — The producers of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” say former White House executive pastry chef William Yosses will serve as the production’s official pie maker.

The Tooting Arts Club’s version of the stage show will begin its New York run Feb. 14. Opening night is set for March 1.

No casting has been announced yet.

“Sweeney Todd” has music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Hugh Wheeler from an adaptation by Christopher Bond.

The macabre musical is about the exploits of the murderous, titular character and his accomplice, the resourceful pie-shop proprietress Mrs. Lovett, who helps him dispose of his victims.   “We are delighted that Bill Yosses — the ‘Crust Master’ — is our official pie maker at our pie shop at Barrow Street,” producer Rachel Edwards said in a statement.

“Bill and his talented team are perfectly placed to be introducing New Yorkers to this quintessential London dish. Their involvement — like all members of our creative team — will contribute so greatly to the atmosphere and authenticity of this unique, theatrical experience.”

“I am so excited to be working with the creative team of ‘Sweeney Todd’ to bring to life the full enjoyment of this popular musical,” added Yosses. “I am creating a modern and delicious version of the classic English ‘pie and mash’ dish that theatergoers can enjoy before the show. It will be a truly ‘immersive — you are there — experience’ of the best kind.”
