NEW YORK, Aug. 17, 2015 — (UPI) — Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan will return to TV on Saturday Night Live in October.
NBC announced Monday the 46-year-old star will host the sketch comedy series Oct. 17. Singer Miley Cyrus will kick off the new season Oct. 3, while actress and comedian Amy Schumer is scheduled for Oct. 10.
The appearance will mark Morgan’s first major performance since his June 2014 car accident. The actor was involved in a six-vehicle crash with a Wal-Mart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike that left him in critical condition and killed his friend, writer Jimmy McNair.
The National Transportation Safety Board determined last week that “driver fatigue” on the part of the Wal-Mart truck driver involved was the probable cause of the crash. The severity of Morgan’s and his fellow passengers’ injuries were linked to their failure to wear seat belts.
Morgan was a Saturday Night Live cast member from 1996 to 2003, and previously hosted the show in 2009. The actor said on the Today show in June that he was not “100 percent yet.”
“When I’m there, you’ll know it. I’ll get back to making you laugh. I promise you,” he said.
