HOLLYWOOD, April 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Melissa McCarthy’s “The Boss” battled with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” over the weekend for the No. 1 spot.
The new comedy edged out the superhero film by about $45,000, based on estimates provided by Box Office Mojo.
“The Boss” proves McCarthy’s star power as the film delivered a $20 million debut. Not even the overwhelmingly negative reviews or lackluster “C+” rating on CinemaScore could stop “The Boss” from a $23.48 million dollar weekend.
Dropping to second place, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” dipped 54.3 percent this weekend, taking in $23.43 million. Experts who have been predicting the film’s short screen-life say the trend will continue, according to Box Office Mojo.
“Batman v Superman” currently is on the verge of breaking the $300-million mark domestically.
“Zootopia” drops to third place. Disney’s animated film earned $14.3 million over the weekend. It’s total domestic take is $296 million with a worldwide gross of $852.5 million.
“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” takes the No. 4 position with a weekend total of $6.4 million. The sequel to the 2002 film has a grand total of $46.7 million domestically.
Opening in fifth place it’s “Hardcore Henry,” a film shot in point-of-view style. The action flick performed below expectations taking in $5 million.
