Weekend Box Office: ‘Mockingjay 2’ Underperforms All the Way to the Top

HOLLYWOOD – November 23,2015 — (Gephardt Daily) — Although “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” debuted in first place with over $100.0 million dollars, according to expectations, it underperformed by about $20. million. Expectations for the series finale was between $120 and $125 million dollars.

By comparison, “Mockingjay Part 1” opened with $121.8 million.

“Mockingjay Part 2” brought in a world-wide total of $247.00 million dollars and, according to Box Office Mojo, that’s $27.8m behind Part 1 ‘s $273.8 million.

Here’s the breakdown for the weekend box office.

1st place belongs to “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” with $101.0 million dollars.

2nd place goes to “Spectre,” the James Bond movie bringing in a weekend total of $14.6 million in its 3rd week. The spy thriller’s grand total domestically is $153.7 million dollars.

In 3rd place its “The Peanuts Movie” with an additional $12.8 million in ticket sales. The Animated family film has brought in $98.9 million dollars since opening November 6th.

Sony Pictures’ “The Night Before” starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt premiered in the 4th spot with $10.1 million.

And in 5th place, “The Secret in Their Eyes,” starring Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman brought in $6.6 million dollars its opening weekend.

Don’t underestimate the fact that the star of the movies, Jennifer Lawrence went out of her way to alienate a large segment of the movies fan base when she trashed Christian and Republican fans of the movies with left-wing democratic talking points. What was supposed to be a promotion tour of Mockingjay – Part 2 turned out to be a bash of many loyal fans who decided to sit this one out.
