LOS ANGELES, July 13 (UPI) — Warner Bros. and DC Comics have revealed the official synopsis for their upcoming superhero epic, “Wonder Woman.”

“‘Wonder Woman’ hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins,” reads the synopsis.

“Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.”

The solo-adventure marks the second time Gadot will be seen as the character following her appearance in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The actress will also star as the Amazon warrior in Warner Bros currently in production superhero ensemble film, “Justice League.”

Early footage of the film was revealed in January as part of the CW’s “Dawn of the Justice” League special, confirming that the conflict Wonder Woman finds herself in is World War I. The American pilot portrayed by Chris Pine is also a noted Wonder Woman character from the comics, Steve Trevor.

Gadot and Pine are set to be joined by Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis,Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Scripted by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, from a story by Zack Snyder and Allen Heinberg, the synopsis comes before Warner Bros. plans on showcasing Wonder Woman during their Hall H panel taking place July 23 at the San Diego Comic Con.

Also in January, it was announced that original Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter, who famously appeared as the heroine in the popular 1970s television series, would not be appearing in the film despite a fan petition and a cryptic response regarding the matter from Pine.

“Wonder Woman” is due in theaters June 2, 2017.
