CALDWELL, Idaho, Jan. 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One Utah resident was killed and two others were injured after a rollover crash on Interstate 84 near Caldwell in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred on westbound I-84 at mile marker 29, just after 1 a.m., Idaho State Police said in a news release.
Ilija Matunovic, 20, of Moab, was driving eastbound on I-84 in a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, the news release said. Matunovic drove through the median, for an unknown reason, where the vehicle rolled and came to rest in the westbound lanes.
Matunovic and a passenger, Daniel S. Vijil, 42, of Blanding, were both transported to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise; police did not disclose their conditions. They were both wearing their seatbelts, officials said.
A rear passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to injuries at scene. That individual has not yet been identified pending notification of family members.
Both westbound lanes of I-84 were blocked until approximately 4:30 a.m.
This crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police; the cause has not yet been determined.
