WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — In the fourth auto-pedestrian accident in northern Utah in three days, a 13-year-old boy was transported to hospital with a broken ankle after he was hit by a car while crossing a street in West Valley City Wednesday morning.
West Valley City Lt. Steve Katz told Gephardt Daily the incident happened in the area of 3785 S. 6400 West at 6:48 a.m.
Katz said the boy was apparently on his way to school when he crossed the street and was hit by a vehicle traveling northbound on 6400 West. At this time investigators believe the boy was not in a crosswalk.
The boy was alert and talking after the incident and was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital with a probable broken ankle.
The female driver stayed at the scene and called 911. The posted speed limit in the area is 35 mph and Katz said investigators do not suspect speeding or impairment was a factor.
Katz said at this time of year, both pedestrians and drivers need to be extra aware.
“You can never be too careful,” he said.
He added that it would have been dark at the time of the accident, and possibly foggy.
The auto-pedestrian accident was the fourth in northern Utah this week.
