PARLEYS CANYON, Utah, Nov. 11, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 19-year-old woman is dead and an 18-year-old woman is in serious condition after a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 80 in Parleys Canyon early Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sofiea M. Maya-Flores, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The release said a white Nissan Versa was traveling west on I-80 at mile post 137 at approximately 12:10 a.m.
“The vehicle left the road to the left and struck the concrete barrier,” the news release said. “After striking the barrier, it rolled. It appears the vehicle rolled end over end several times before coming to rest on its wheels.”
The driver, later identified as Maya-Flores, sustained a fatal head injury from the roof of the vehicle, and the passenger was transported to the University of Utah Hospital in serious condition.
Both women were wearing seat belts, officials said.
Impairment and speed are being investigated as factors in crash.
At the time of the crash the roads were dry, the news release said, but after the crash, weather moved in and hampered the initial investigation.
