SANDY, Utah, April 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — It was a busy Thursday night for whoever apparently robbed two businesses at gunpoint, one in Holladay and the other an hour later in Sandy.

Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen told Gephardt Daily that at about 11 p.m. a man entered the Best Western at 10695 Auto Mall Drive, pulled a black semi-automatic gun out, pointed it at the clerk and demanded money. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the business on foot.

There were no injuries reported.

The suspect is described as an African American male in his mid to late 30s, between 6-feet-3-inches and 6-feet-5-inches tall, approximately 225 pounds with a thin face. The suspect had a black jacket with gray pants and gray shoes with white soles and was wearing a silver crucifix chain around his neck.

Nielsen said the suspect is still on the loose and is strikingly similar in appearance and method to a man who robbed another business earlier Thursday night.

In that robbery, the suspect targeted a Shell gas station at 2322 E. 4500 in Holladay.

Unified Police Lt. Paul Barker said the man entered the gas station, pointed a handgun at the clerk, demanded money and left on foot with the cash. He was described as an African-American man, about 6-feet-tall, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. There were no injuries in this robbery.

Unified Police set up containment in the area and brought in the K-9 unit, but the suspect managed to get away.

Anyone who has any information about these robberies or the possible identity of the suspect or suspects is asked to call the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000 or Sandy Police Department at 801-799-3000.
