SPRINGVILLE, Utah, Aug. 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Three 16-year-old Mapleton girls were injured when a car veered off the road and crashed into a tree Wednesday evening in Hobble Creek Canyon.

Emergency dispatchers received a call at 8:19 p.m. about a single-vehicle crash near the junction of the right and left forks of Hobble Creek Road near Jolley’s Ranch, Utah County Sheriff‘s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.

The vehicle had been traveling south on the south fork of Hobble Creek Road when the driver went off the road and crashed into a tree, Cannon said. The driver likely was traveling too fast to make the turn, he said.

Two of the vehicle’s three occupants had to be extricated and were taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition, Cannon said. It took roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes to extricate the driver and the passenger seated behind the driver in the back seat, he said.

A third teen in the car also was taken to a hospital, according to the Mapleton City Fire Department, though the extent of her injuries was not immediately available.

The Springville and Provo fire departments and Intermountain Life Flight also responded to the crash.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
