EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Three fugitives from Colorado were arrested after a high-speed chase from Emery County to Salina County Wednesday afternoon.
Eric Robert Somerville, 22, of Littleton, and Sean Anthony Estrada, 31, of Westminster, were both taken to the Sevier County Jail where they are being held pending further investigation. A juvenile female was taken to the detention center in Richfield. She is also listed as a runaway out of Colorado.
The three subjects are suspects in several felonies in Colorado and Wyoming and the Salina City Police Department will be working with authorities from both of those areas during the investigation.
A news release from Salina City Police said Wednesday at approximately 12:45 p.m. a Utah Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a dark grey Infiniti with Colorado tags on I-70 near mile marker 126 in Emery County. The vehicle took off and fled westbound on I-70 and the trooper pursued it where it reached speeds of up to 120 mph.
The vehicle was able to elude the trooper near the area of Highway 10 but was later located as it continued west on I-70 near the Gooseberry exit. Salina City Police Chief Al Taylor responded to the Salina exit to assist with the pursuit.
“The suspects were able to exit the freeway at Salina where they fled into town driving at speeds near 100 mph,” the news release continued. “Chief Taylor followed and was able to cut off their escape where the suspects abandoned the car near a daycare center and fled on foot.”
Taylor located one of the suspects behind a local convenience store and was able to safely take him in to custody.
“Fortunately for Chief Taylor, a local armed citizen was on alert and noticed one of the other suspects, a 17-year-old female, hiding in a dumpster near where Chief Taylor was handcuffing the first suspect,” the news release said. “The 17-year-old female was leaning out of the top of the dumpster behind the chief holding a handgun. The citizen yelled at her not to shoot and she ducked back into the dumpster. Moments later the female jumped out of the dumpster and began to run but was Tased and quickly taken into custody.”
A third suspect was able to run away immediately after the suspects jumped out of the car and a search was begun by Salina Police Department, UHP troopers, Sevier County deputies and AP&P officers. The local schools were also placed on lockdown while officers searched for the third suspect. The suspect was located within about 30 minutes in the lobby of a local motel after citizens reported seeing him there.
