SANDY, Utah, April 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Three horses were attacked by three unleashed dogs at Dimple Dell Regional Park Thursday.

A Facebook post from Dimple Dell Preservation Community Friday said: “We need no reminder why it is so important to keep dogs on a leash on a multi-user park. Yesterday three horses were attacked in a serious off-leash dog incident.”

One rider was bucked off and the panicked horse took off galloping down the trail, the post said.

“One horse was severely injured in the melee,” the post went on. “We hope the people and horses involved make a full recovery. It appears the owner of the three dogs involved is accepting responsibility.”

Dimple Dell Regional Park, at 10600 S. 1300 East in Sandy, has a total of 630 acres of natural area, including more than 15 miles of trails for hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders.

The Salt Lake County Government website said: “Dogs are allowed at all Salt Lake County parks provided they are on a leash which is controlled by the owner.” Some parks do have off-leash areas, but Dimple Dell is not one of these. For more information about off-leash dog areas, click here.

“Everyone deserves to be safe,” the Facebook post said. “Keep your dogs on leash at all times. It’s the law.”
