3-year-old Park City boy dies after fall from Lake Powell houseboat

BULLFROG, Utah, Oct. 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 3-year-old boy died Friday after falling from the upper deck of a houseboat in the Willow Creek Canyon area of Lake Powell.

The deceased has been identified as Jayden Cooper Vokas, from Park City, Kane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Wednesday.

“The reporting party indicated the child was asleep on the upper deck of the houseboat and during the night fell off into five feet of water,” the news release said. “There were seven adults and one child not including the victim on the house boat.”

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Dispatch was notified that the 3-year-old boy had died and was being transported to the Halls Crossing Launch Ramp at approximately 3:30 p.m., the news release said.

National Park Service (NPS) Rangers from Halls Crossing and Bullfrog met the party; no life support measures were taken.

The child was not wearing a life jacket.

The incident occurred approximately 34 miles by boat down lake from Halls Crossing Marina in Kane County, Utah.

The Kane County and San Juan County Sheriff’s Offices assisted with the incident.

The death is under investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the National Park Service and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
