3rd suspect arrested in Salt Lake City homicide case

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 3, 2024 — Salt Lake City police detectives have arrested a third alleged suspect in connection with the May 26 shooting death of 30-year-old Nico Christopher Patino.

According to a Wednesday morning press release by the SLCPD PR Unit, 19-year-old Nhial Buk was booked into Salt Lake County Metro Jail for “murder, felony discharge of a firearm, failure to stop at the command of a police officer, and obstruction of justice.”

Police say Patino was shot to death in a “coordinated effort with several shooters on foot and in a car” sometime before 4 a.m Sunday, May 26, 2024 near 1800 West Fortune Road.

He died on scene.

“During their investigation, detectives identified Buk as being one of the shooters,” and, upon learning his whereabouts, safely took him into custody after a foot chase.

The motive for Patino’s homicide remains under investigation.
