SPANISH FORK CANYON, Utah, Aug. 27, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people were in serious condition and two others suffered minor injuries Sunday night when their trucks collided on State Route 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Cameron Roden said the crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. near milepost 206.
He said the driver of an eastbound service truck was fatigued and fell asleep, causing the truck to drift into the westbound lane.
The driver of a westbound pickup truck tried to avoid a collision, but the service truck hit the back end of the pickup.
Roden said three people in the pickup truck — a man, woman and juvenile — were transported to Utah Valley Regional Hospital. The woman was in serious condition, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the service truck was flown by helicopter to Utah Valley Regional also in serious condition, but with non-life-threatening injuries.
Roden said it appeared that everyone was using their seat belt.
SR-6 was blocked in both directions while the medical helicopter landed, and the crash itself caused “some traffic issues,” Roden said, but the road was cleared and open to all traffic by 7:30 p.m.
The crash was still under investigation late Sunday night.
