SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 47-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly causing thousands of dollars in property damage in downtown Salt Lake City.

The SLCPD PR Unit said the investigation began Wednesday at 9:59 p.m. after emergency operators received calls of a man shattering windows at the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, located at 35 East 500 South.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police say Damien McNear not only smashed windows at the DA’s office, but also scratched 10 new cars that the Mercedez-Benz dealership at 575 South State Street.

They say McNear also chipped a window at the Salt Lake County Health Department, located at 610 South 200 East.

Investigators believe McNear randomly selected the properties he damaged, most likely using a rock in carrying out the alleged crimes.

The damage at the district attorney’s office alone is estimated to be well over $5,000, according to police.

“Officers booked McNear into the Salt Lake County Jail on three counts of felony property damage,” the SLCPD PR Unit said.
